Introduction

PurePrep ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services.

Information We Collect

Account Information

Depending on the sign-in method you choose, we collect:

  • Google Sign-In: your name, email address, profile picture, and Google account ID
  • Sign in with Apple: your name (only if you choose to share it), email address (which may be Apple's private relay email if you choose to hide your real address), and Apple user ID
  • Email Sign-In: your email address and any name you provide when creating your account

If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive a unique private-relay address from Apple instead of your real email. You can stop receiving messages from us at any time through your Apple ID settings, in which case we will no longer be able to contact you.

Recipe and Meal Planning Data

We collect information you provide when using PurePrep:

  • Recipe URLs and extracted recipe information
  • Meal plans and calendar entries
  • Shopping lists
  • Family member information you add to your account

Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you use the app:

  • Device type and operating system
  • App usage statistics
  • Error logs and crash reports

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Create and manage your account
  • Store and organize your recipes and meal plans
  • Enable family sharing features
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Send important service updates
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With Family Members: When you add family members to your account, they can view shared recipes and meal plans
  • Service Providers: We use third-party services to provide essential functionality, including authentication, cloud hosting, AI-powered features, subscription management, email delivery, and push notification delivery. See the Third-Party Services section below for a complete list.
  • Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety

AI-Powered Features

PurePrep uses artificial intelligence services to generate and extract recipes, suggest meals, and process user inputs. When you use AI-powered features (such as Describe a Dish, Cookbook Photo, Snap a Plate, What's in My Kitchen, or URL-based recipe import), the following data may be sent to our AI service providers — currently Anthropic (for text generation and recipe extraction) and Google (for image generation):

  • The text description, ingredient list, or recipe URL you provide
  • Photos you upload (for the Cookbook Photo and Snap a Plate features)
  • Your dietary profile — including dietary restrictions, allergies, and food preferences — used to personalize generated recipes
  • The URL of the page being imported (for social media and website imports)

These providers process this data under their own privacy policies (linked in the Third-Party Services section). We do not provide your name, email, account ID, or other directly identifying information to AI providers. Your dietary profile is sent without information that would identify you personally.

AI-generated content is provided for inspiration and convenience only. See our Terms of Service for important disclaimers about the accuracy and safety of AI-generated recipes, including the responsibility to verify allergens, ingredient quantities, and cooking times before preparing or consuming any AI-generated recipe.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication via Google OAuth
  • Regular security updates and monitoring
  • Restricted access to personal information

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
  • Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

Children's Privacy

PurePrep is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Third-Party Services

Our app uses the following third-party services to provide and improve our Service. Each operates under its own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for their practices.

  • Google OAuth and Sign in with Apple: For authentication when you sign in with Google or Apple
  • Microsoft Azure: For application hosting, database storage, blob storage (recipe images and generated media), email delivery via Azure Communication Services, and push notification routing via Azure Notification Hubs
  • Anthropic (Claude): For AI text generation and recipe extraction (see Anthropic's Privacy Policy)
  • Google (Gemini): For AI image generation (see Google's Privacy Policy)
  • RevenueCat: For managing your subscription status across iOS and Android. RevenueCat receives anonymized subscription metadata (not your name or email) to track entitlements (see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy)
  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): For delivering push notifications to your iOS or Android device. We send device tokens to these services in order to deliver notifications you've opted into

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA"):

  • Right to Know: You may request that we disclose the categories of personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, the business purposes for collecting it, the categories of third parties with whom we share it, and the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions allowed by law
  • Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: PurePrep does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have no need to provide an opt-out mechanism because we do not engage in these practices
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") and similar laws.

Legal Basis for Processing. We process your personal information under the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: to provide the Service you've signed up for
  • Legitimate interests: to improve our Service, prevent fraud, and ensure security
  • Consent: where you've explicitly agreed (for example, when you use AI-powered features)
  • Legal obligation: where required by law

Your Rights. In addition to the rights listed under "Your Rights and Choices" above, you also have the right to:

  • Object to or restrict our processing of your personal information
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
  • Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority

Data Transfers. PurePrep is operated from Canada, and our infrastructure is hosted on Microsoft Azure. Your information may be transferred to and processed outside of your country of residence. Where required by applicable data protection laws, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
